Day 30 Nantasket Beach

Sharing is caring!

If you live in Eastern Mass, you know all about Nantasket. This beach has been a day getaway for the South Shore and Bostonians since the middle of the 19th century. The whole thing is 26 acres long and covers 1/3 of a mile of oceanfront. They’re open year-round, dawn to dusk and have trained lifeguards on duty from late June to early September.

Nearby, there’s plenty of marshy almost-dunes to see. Great for bird watching. The waterfront shops and arcades are a huge attraction too. There are restrooms and bathhouses along the shoreline for comfort and convenience too. On July 2cd and 4th, there’ll be concerts in the Bernie King Pavilion. Every Sunday, they have line dancing there. If you’re hungry, try Ally’s at the Beach, great beach fare. There’s a few clubs and bars sprinkled about for a Margarita or two…or three.

This used to be the home of Paragon Amusement Park. That was regular summer event for my family and I have a lot of fun childhood memories from there. The carousel is still there as a sort of memorial. If you have those memories too, even if you never rode the carousel, go take a look and see how you feel.

Oh yeah. There a boatload of quiet, sandy, very well maintained beach, bordered by a large concrete beach wall or further down, a large rock wall. The parking lot fills up fast in summer so come early. Check out the sunrise. Oh MY!!! For directions, check out their website at http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/nantask.htm .

Have Fun!!!
