AHA! Night in New Bedford MA

AHA! (Art • History • Architecture) Night is a FREE arts & culture event which 
takes place the 2nd Thursday of every month in Downtown New Bedford.  The project’s core cultural nights are held on the second Thursday of each month from 5:00 – 9:00 PM and involve over 60 downtown museums, galleries, arts organizations, merchants, restaurants, churches and schools, The New Bedford Whaling Museum, The UMD CVPA Star Store and the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. Each month’s event is themed so that distinctive cultural programs are presented and creative partner involvement remains robust.

Thursday August 9th  Jamming in the Streets 

Dance in the street to a funky beat with the Southcoast Brass Band (SCBB), kicking off the night in Custom House Park at 5:30pm. SCBB is group of energized local musicians that is dedicated to the traditions of jazz & funk radiating from New Orleans with a special New Bedford influence.

What’s happening at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park (33 William Street):
– Jam (and jelly) with the 1850s Ladies. Ruth and Abby will be talking about 19th century jams & jellies and you can try some of their favorites.
– The Filipino-American Community of Southeastern, MA, invites you to “Barrio Fiesta”, the first Philippine cultural celebration in Greater New Bedford! Enjoy traditional Philippine music and folk dances, learn traditional games, and try your hand at making native-style arts and crafts! 6–8pm
– Watch as Fitzcarmel LaMarre paints the cover and answers questions about his zombie apocalypse, graphic novel, NEW DEADFORD. Fitz is New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park’s current Artist-In-Residence. 5:30-8:00 pm in the 2nd floor MakerSpace

Get down with some sea chantey punk when Sharks Come Cruisin plays live at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center(38 Bethel Street). 6-7pm.

Enjoy some traditional sea chantey music with the New Bedford Harbor Sea Chantey Chorus on the New Bedford Whaling Museum plaza (18 Johnny Cake Hill), 6pm.

The summer tradition continues! Centre Street Sessions, presented by Whaling City Sound. This month in the the Faces of Bass Series: Dave Zinno, acoustic bass: Jay Azzolino, guitar, Steve Langone drums, Dino Govoni, sax. Outdoors in the Fiber Optic Center parking lot (23 Centre Street) with sets at 5:30 & 7:15pm. Rain location: BayCoast Bank (23 Elm Street).

New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Pop-Up in DeMello International Center lobby (128 Union Street):
“Electric Strings” features the Richie Parsons Duo with a mix of Bach and contemporary songs on electric guitar and electric viola, 6-7pm.
“Classical Greats” features the NBSO’s Learning in Concert Trio performing Bach, Shostakovich, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn and more, 7-8pm.

Live music on Front Street!
The Monteirobots bring the funk to the Cork dining room (90 Front Street) starting at 8pm. Then head next door to Rose Alley Ale House for tunes with Rebecca Correia.

- Overhead Arts performances, 6-8pm.
– Join the New Bedford Regional Office of Attorney General Maura Healy for a make and take craft. Plus office resources and educational materials for the adults. 5-7pm
