Day 311 Bye Bye Birdie Musical Curtain Call Theater in Braintree MA
The South Shore theatre season is back in swing! Curtain Call Theater in Braintree will be presenting the classic Broadway musical over the next two weekends  in Braintree.
The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957. The rock star character’s name, “Conrad Birdie,” is word play on the name of Conway Twitty. Twitty is best remembered today for his long career as a country music star, but before that, in the late 1950s, he was one of Presley’s rock ‘n’ roll rivals
.Bye Bye Birdie tells the tale of rock and roll singer Conrad Birdie who is about to be inducted into the army. Conrad’s mild mannered agent Albert Peterson, and Albert’s faithful secretary Rosie, concoct one final publicity promotion before Birdie’s induction. The singing idol will bid a typical teenage girl goodbye with one last all-American kiss. But Birdie’s arrival in Sweet Apple, Ohio causes people of all ages to swoon which sets off a series of events with hilarious consequences.
A musical satire done with great affection, the story gives insight into small town life with humor and imagination. The classic score includes The Telephone Hour, Put On A Happy Face, A Lot Of Livin’ To Do, Kids, Rosie and more. A fun show for all ages!
