Day 447 Civil War Encampment Living History in Abington MA

Do you want to experience some living history with the kids? Civil War Encampment will be held  Saturday September 22nd  through September 23rd. at Island Grove Park  in Abington MA to celebrate the Abington tricentennial.  Members of the recreated 22nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and the U.S. Sanitary Commission will be among those setting up camp for the weekend. All are invited to attend some or all of the activities at Island Grove during this time. There is no admission fee for this living history.

As part of  Civil War reenactment encampment, there will be a special ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the Civil War Memorial Arch on Saturday 12 noon  as well as the soldiers who served from Abington and the Abolitionists who used Island Grove for meetings to speak against slavery, leading up to the Civil War.

 

Throughout the day on September 22nd demonstrations of everyday military and civilian living will be ongoing including union and civilian camps, cooking demonstrations  There will be a kids drill  After sunset from 7 to 9 p.m., there will be a lantern tour of the campsites and the Memorial Bridge will be lined with 300 luminarias. On Sunday, Sept. 23 at 8:30 a.m., there will be a Soldiers Church Service. At 1 p.m. the activities will conclude with a Victorian Fashion Show.
