Day 499 4th Annual Quincy Chilli Bowl 2013
The 4th Annual “Chili Bowl†Chili Cook-Off, to be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2013 at Houghs Neck Congregational Church in Quincy MA.
Chili con carne (chili with meat) or more commonly known as simply “chili†is a spicy stew containing chili peppers (from a Nahuatl word for Capsicum spp. L.) and meat. Traditional versions are made using chili peppers, garlic, onions, and cumin, along with chopped or ground beef. Beans and tomatoes are frequently included. Variations, both geographic and personal, may involve different types of meat as well as a variety of other ingredients. It can be found in many countries in local variations and also in certain American-style fast food restaurants. The variant recipes provoke disputes among aficionados, and the dish is used as an ingredient in a number of other foods.
There will be  categories for both home cooks and restaurants. Local restaurants include competing for the best chili include The Common Market, The Four’s, Wild Willy’s Burgers, and Coop’s Bar & Grille  the event will offer attendees the chance to sample and savor up to 20 different varieties of chili, with trophies and medals awarded to the champion chili winners as voted on by attendees. Admission to the cook-off is $5 and includes all the chili attendees can eat. Hot dogs, beer, soda and snacks will also be available for an additional charge.
