Day 835 Farfar’s Danish Ice Cream Shop in Duxbury MA
Farfar’s Danish Ice Cream Shop has a been staple in Duxbury for more than 35 years.Farfar is the Danish word for grandfather, or “father’s father”. Farfar’s Danish Ice Cream Shop was named for Walter Simonsen (or Farfar as he was known to family and friends), a first generation Danish-American and grandfather to Farfar’s in Duxbury, MA. Walter spent a lifetime gathering methods and recipes for making superior ice cream and was something of a legend in the ice cream industry. He created many of HP Hood’s ice cream recipes and in the 70’s developed frozen yogurt (“frogurt” – for those who remember).
The ice cream recipes that Farfar created haven’t changed and have been used since the shop first opened its , on June 16, 1979. The ice cream is still made fresh, on site, with the finest ice cream ingredients and has received Best of Boston awards for multiple years in a row. You can taste all of your favorite flavors at Farfar’s and the delicious, new flavors have been added over the years, too.
