Spring Planting Moon Pow-Wow 2016 in Marshfield MA
The Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness will be holding the 23RD annual Spring Planting Moon Pow –wow on Memorial Day weekend Saturday-Sunday May 28–29TH 11-5pm at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
Stop by and watch Native American artisans demonstrate traditional wampum making, basket making, bead & quillwork, and finger weaving. Hear a presentation by Jennifer Lee on (1) Lifeways of the Indigenous Peoples of the Northeast Woodlands around the 1700’s, and (2) A Better Understanding of the Native Nations of the Northeast Today. The presentation will take place at her conical wigwam which is surrounded by her handmade baskets made from white pine bark and from ash bark. Watch inter-tribal and specialty dancing.
The pow-wow will also feature seven-time Native American Music Awards winner – Joseph Fire Crow of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. There will also be an interactive educational workshop by educator Claudia Fox Tree, storytelling in front of the tipi; a resource and membership table; arts, crafts and Native food for sale that includes buffalo burgers, elk chili, fry bread, Indian tacos, frog legs, corn soup, and some American fare. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.
