Day 244 Plymouth Maritime Day

This weekend head down to the Plymouth waterfront!  The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce welcomes the public to Maritime Day Saturday, July 9, at Plymouth Harbor. The Blessing of the Fleet will be at noon. Activities include live entertainment, food, family activities, nautical crafters and more.

Boats in  Plymouth, MA

The Blessing of the Fleet is a centuries-old tradition originating in southern European,
fishing communities. The Blessing is used to  ask for the safety of mariners, good harvest
from the sea, clean waters and good will  and peace among peoples of the world.

The Blessing tradition includes community  involvement, laying a memorial wreath
commemorating those who have died at  sea, and the clergy offering God’s blessing
on all mariners.

Family friendly activities include

Hanson Children’s Museum  12-3pm on the Town Pier
Learn poems and make signal lanterns on the   waterfront with the Hanson Children’s Museum

Face Painting
Plymouth Maritime Day will be offering FREE face   painting at the Kid’s Activities Tent on Town Pier

Plymouth Cruises/Lobster Tales
Enjoy a Pirate Cruise in Plymouth Harbor with   Plymouth Cruises. (cost)

From 12 – 4 pm: See live lobsters, crabs & marine   life…Be sure to bring your camera for a picture of
“Rocky” the lobster.

7:30 – 10 pm: Boat Parade Cruise   Instead of just watching the Boat Parade, come sail
with us!  Be a part of the VIP fun & festivities.  Our   boat will be decked out with over 5,000 lights!!  
$25/person- music, appetizers & cash bar.  Call   508.746.5342.

The National Marine life center will also be on the town pier they are an animal hospital for sea turtle and seals and many other stranded marine animals.

The boat parade begins at 8:30 p.m. The most popular event at Plymouth Maritime Day, the boat parade rewards boat owners’ creativity, as they decorate their vessels and compete to be the most festively decorated boat in Plymouth Harbor. Prizes will be awarded to the top three boats in the parade. Line the shores of Plymouth Harbor
