Essentials for fun and safe day at the beach!

Sharing is caring!

You may be heading out to Nantansket Beach in Hull or heading down to Duxbury beach or maybe heading to Cape Cod or the Maine beaches, do you have everything that you need for a fun  and safe day in the sun! beach umbrella

Beach Bags:

How do you get your gear there to the beach and keep it safe? You’ll want a large, sturdy, waterproof beach bag. I know what you’re thinking, I have a ton of plastic bags from food shopping. Think about it for a moment. Ever made it home from shopping without at least one bag shredding? We have one from LL Bean that is almost 10 years old and still does the job.

Waterproof Box:

Sand can be as dangerous to delicate electronics like Smartphones, Iphones and electronic games like Nintendo DS’s. Sporting Goods stores like Dicks or REI and large retailers like Walmart sell these handy little items to protect your expensive electronics, wallets and other delicate stuff from accidental sand or water exposure. It has to rain sometime, right? And hovering kids tend to drip.

Big Fluffy Beach  Towels:

Don’t bring your house towels-invest in some beach towels.  Beach towels can be a fun gift to kids at Christmas time.  You can personalized it or maybe they want an NFL beach towel!

Food and Water

Grab a good cooler and fill it!

Sun is hot and dry. Sand is hot and dry. Salt water doesn’t help that. Heat stroke isn’t fun and snack shacks are expensive. Take about double the water you normally drink. Freeze the water bottles  the night before and they will be nice and cold when you need to drink them the next day.

Good food is a must. Make it cold or room temperature safe. Lots of  snacks that can take the heat plus you should pack some sandwiches . You’ll also need utensils, napkins and bring some extra plastic grocery bags for trash.

Good Sunscreen:

Sunscreen is the most must-have beach item. Don’t forget to reapply it over and over again just to be sure you and your loved ones are protected. Water, sweat and outdoor activity will wash it out quickly. Bullfrog has a great sunscreen and bug repellant combination. Kill two birds/bugs with one stone. Burns are no fun. No matter how much you’d like a dark tan, don’t risk it.  In the off-chance you do get burned, try BananaBoat Soothing Aloe Cream. Believe it or not, I’ve felt relief from bad sun  burns using that stuff.

Sunglasses:

Bright sunlight is an instant headache producer and actually cuts down on your long distance vision. Good UVA and UVB rated sunglasses aren’t just for comfort.

First Aid Kit:

No matter how well groomed the beach is , sharp rocks, shells and broken glass are out there . Be Ready. Dollar stores offer cheap first aid kits, but here I’d recommend spending a little for a good kit. Better to have it and the tools if you need them than be wishing I did. Bandaids, antiseptic, antibiotic cream and hydrocortisone anti-itch cream can save the day in a light emergency.

Beach Umbrella and Baby Beach tent

Not many people like a whole day in the sun. A portable umbrella or easy up tent can provide some relief from those harmful rays. Get one with an unusual color or design to use a beacon for your base camp.  If you have young babies or children that need a nap, you should consider a getting   Beach tent

Portable Folding Beach Lawn  Chairs:

These folding canvas chairs are a God-sent. They take up little space in the car. They’re light and they work as well at the soccer game, the beach or even your porch.

Beach Toys:

Kites, inflatable rings, pails, shovels, half surf boards and goggles will help keep kids from boredom and fighting with you and each other. After the first dozen “Can we go home yet?” I’m starting to steam.

Gallon Jug of Water in the Car:

This one’s not for drinking. Rinse sandy, dirty feet. Sand is an irritating souvenir.

Have a safe and fun Summer at the beach
