Day 457 New Bedford Seaport Chowder Festival 2012

The  Seventh Annual New Bedford Seaport Chowder Festival  will be held on  Sunday of Columbus Day weekend  October 7th, from 12 noon to 5 pm in Custom House Square in New Bedford.

From noon to 3:15 p.m., sample the offerings from Southcost area  restaurants, many offering one or more in the categories of Clam Chowder, Seafood Chowder, Kale Soup and Stuffed Quahogs, all under one enormous tent. Restaurants to date include: Braza Rotisserie, Cedars Assisted Living, Cotali Mar Restaurant, Emeritus at Dartmouth Village; Freestone’s City Grill, Inner Bay Cafe & Grille, Lafrance Hospitality, M & C Cafe, Me & Ed’s, Mike’s Restaurant, The Pasta House, River’s End Cafe, Southcoast Hospitals Group, Seaport Inn & Marina; St. Michael’s Restaurant, Vivvy’s and Whaling City Diner.

 

Additions to this year’s Chowder Festival also include expanded family and children’s activities: free Antique fire truck rides around the Historic District, sponsored by Baarsvik Orthodontics, and craft activities organized by volunteers from the Ocean Explorium and Global Charter School.

A big plus this year is a great show band called Another Tequila Sunrise. They are a well know “Eagles” cover band. They will be performing 3 sets during the afternoon.

 

New this year – The Southcoast Health Van will be parked on William Street from11am to 5 pm. Providing free health screenings for blood pressure. Sugar, cholesterol, cancer and education on stroke as well as tetanus and pneumonia immunizations. The staff can help address risk factors and make referrals.

 

Also available for purchase are a selection of beers and wines, soft drinks and mixed drinks in the courtyard outside the main tent. Cafe Arpeggio will offer food for those not into the chowder that will include desserts, coffees, homemade ice cream and sandwiches.

TICKETS are $15 in advance, $18 day of, $5 for children 6-12, free for 5 and younger.
