Day 458 South Shore Green Living and Fall Harvest Celebration 2012 in Marshfield MA

Sharing is caring!

The 2012  South Shore celebration will be held on Columbus Day weekend on Saturday October  6th from 10am-4:30pm at the  Marhfield Fairgrounds. This will be a great day celebrating  fall harvest, local foods and sustainable living.  The whole family will enjoy good food and green fun.

Some the day’s activities include

Seafood Throwdown

Two local chefs compete in a cooking competition inspired by local seafood. Each participant brings only their favorite cooking vessels/utensils, presentation plates and three of their favorite ingredients. Once there, they  discover the secret seafood ingredient and are provided with a selection of fresh local produce from South Shore Organics to use as as their pantry. Then they have an hour to prepare, cook and plate  their dish for three judges. The throwdown begins at 11:30am

Live Music and entertainment

Local Boston band Melodeego will be the  top-billed entertainment for this day-long fest.  Their sound combines rock, soul, R & B and occasional hip-hop. The band consists of three guys committed to making music and providing a voice to this generation of young people. Inspired to do something about our reliance on fossil fuels after the massive BP oil spill, they created a bicycle-powered sound  system which is part of their show.  They are not just singing  about change, but living it! Melodeego will be playing 2 sets: 1:30pm – 2:30pm and 3:00 – 4:00 pm

Kids activities

The Children’s tent this year will include activities provided by the Hanson Children’s Museum. We were going to make corn husk dolls, decorate pumpkins, make bug bandanas, and make our own play dough. A Cranberry Bog workshop will be fun and informative! Last year parents had a hard time getting their kids to leave the fun.

Peavy Farm Animals

Come see Alpaca’s, Sheep, Goats and Cows. This is sure to be a fun time for all ages.

The organizers, Ben Cowie-Haskell of Sustainable South Shore, Laurie Hepworth of edible South Shore, and Paula Keif of GoGreen Web Directory want to empower citizens to make informed decisions about their lifestyles and to provide information on sustainable living. Ben believes that “The South Shore is a beautiful place to live but we can’t take it for granted. The Celebration is intended to be a family event highlighting the many local, green resources we have access to. Living sustainably is really about using common sense so that we leave our children a better environment.”

Parking is free at the fairgrounds and entry to the Celebration is $3 for individuals and $6 for families.
