Stars of Gold Walk & Family Fun Day 2016 in Quincy MA

This Star Won’t Go Out will be hosting the “Stars of Gold Walk,” a 5k walk for childhood cancer and family event fundraiser, on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Quincy’s  Pageant Field. 

Participants can register online at www.starsofgold.org.The “Stars of Gold Walk” brings together several childhood cancer charities during Childhood CancerAwareness Month, including This Star Won’t Go Out, Ellie’s Hats, and Sophia’s Fund.

Registration forthe event is $20 per person, with a family discount available. All participants will receive an exclusive event T­shirt. The family and pet ­friendly off­street walk starts at 10:00 AM, with participant registration beginningat 8:30 AM. Sign up is at the registration table in front of the amphitheater, at 1 Merrymount Pkwy,Quincy, MA 02170. Walkers can choose to do 3 laps to complete a 5k walk, or choose the shorter 1 mile option; a water table will be set up at the halfway point around the route.“This is really a historic event in Quincy­­ a  first time collaborative effort by several nonprofitorganizations to highlight the needs of childhood cancer during September’s Childhood CancerAwareness. Our hope is to see this event grow into an annual event that raises needed funds toimpact pediatric cancer,” said Lori Earl, Founder & Director of This Star Won’t Go Out, a local  Quincy­  based charity. “We are excited that during the Stars of Gold event, Quincy Mayor Koch willjoin us to award a check to a local family touched by this disease.”From 10:30 AM until 2:00 PM, participants and the community are invited to enjoy a variety of free performances at the Ruth Gordon Amphitheater.

Local performers include the North Quincy HighSchool Cheerleaders, Brady Academy of Irish Dance, Center Stage, Velocity Dance, and 3D. Raffle­ style tickets will be available for purchase for a variety of activities, including nail painting, lawn games, andhuman­sized hamster balls! Tickets can also be used to purchase samples from local sponsoringrestaurants, and pizza. Take a photo for free at the onsite photo booth, and decorate a star in honorof a loved one. Prizes will be awarded for the most pledges raised, by an individual child, adult, andteam; the largest team to register, the most enthusiastic walker, the best­sport pet, and owner/petlook­alike!For more information or to register or donate online, please visit www.starsofgold.org
