Milton Porchfest 2023

Sharing is caring!

Milton’s annual  Porchfest scheduled for Saturday September 9th    from 12-6pm in the Columbine Cliff’s neighborhood.   All of the venues are within walking distance of each other.

The idea is simple: for one afternoon, porches throughout the community become makeshift stages, yards become venues, and people from within and beyond wander the streets, chatting, taking in music, and basically reacquainting themselves with what it means to be neighbors. It is open to all, and totally free.

In the last few years, Porchfests have become increasingly popular in our surrounding communities (Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Quincy, and Somerville).

In its inaugural year in 2017, Milton’s Columbine Cliffs neighborhood (the Eliot Street, Brook Road, Central Avenue triangle) proved to be an ideal location to expand Porchfest.  This is a tradition we are excited to continue.  Bring on year 6!

1 VALLEY ROAD EXTENSION @ 6PM

The Grommets

The Grommets are a family friendly original punk rock band with songs about sleazy lawyers and the death of live music. We’ve been embarrassing our kids their whole lives.

36 ALLEN CIRCLE @ 2PM

The Franc Graham Band

Franc Graham has found a genre unto itself; grit and groove, poetry without pretention, mood without moodiness. Chrissy Hinde meets Lou Reed. The FGB played Boston and Cambridge regularly through the ‘90s, recording three albums and leading Lucinda Williams to ask the band to tour and to dub herself “a Franc Graham convert”. The Boston Globe describes them as “immensely underrated” and “cool and commanding.” Fans call them low-rock, swamp rock, alt-americana, and hillbilly hip.

496 ELIOT STREET @ 2PM

The Lazy Susans

Five working moms from Milton started a band in the heart of the pandemic — no musical experience required — and played their first-ever set six months later at the 2021 Milton Porchfest. Eight months later, they were playing original music on national TV as guests on the Kelly Clarkson Show (along with gigs at The Midway in JP and The C Note in Nantasket). The Lazy Susans have been featured in Boston magazine, The Boston Globe, WBZ, WGBH, and WCVB (Channel 5).

34 AVALON ROAD @ 3PM

The Jacklights

Taking inspiration from the likes of Hüsker Dü, Jawbreaker, Descendents, Alkaline Trio, Tsunami Bomb, Pretty Girls Make Graves, and others, The Jacklights play energetic, hook-driven punk/pop-punk with thoughtful lyrics and a 90s alt rock influence.

Launched in January 2020, the band released their self-titled debut EP in October of the same year, followed by the single, “Winter,” in 2021, garnering local media attention. Their second EP, “Drift,” was released via Red on Red Records in July 2021. In August 2021, The Jacklights were nominated for Punk Rock Act of the Year in the New England Music Awards.

56 ALLEN CIRCLE @ 1PM

The Grimly Pleased

The Grimly Pleased is collectively over 200 years old but rock like they are only around 150.

36 ALLEN CIRCLE @ 12PM

Owl Haus

Plugged in (and occasionally distorted) acoustic duo – covers and originals. We play everything from Americana to Harry Styles to Lorde, with some originals thrown in for good measure.

34 AVALON ROAD @ 4PM

The Instamatics
The Instamatics play both kinds of rock…Surf and Punk. A mostly guitar based instrumental band covering hardcore, new wave, TV themes, and a handful of originals. Bring the whole family! You can teach your kids the “Swim”!
