Day 426 Scituate Heritage Days Festival and Carnival 2012

Scituate will be celebrating its heritage during its annual Scituate heritage days festival this weekend Friday August 3rd through Sunday August 5th 2012. Event will take place at Scituate harbor area.

Each year, with the help of many volunteers, the Scituate Chamber of Commerce proudly presents Scituate Heritage Days. This  annual event combines live music, carnival ries  and entertainment, artisan crafts, kid’s activities and historical site visits for one of the South Shore’s biggest and most anticipated outdoor events of the summer months.

Friday August 3rd
4:00 P.M.  “First Friday Night” moves outside. Various specials and sidewalk sales throughout
Scituate Harbor.

6:00-8:00 P.M. Harbor United Methodist Church Pie Social. 55 First Parish Road.

6:00-8:00 P.M. Scituate Art Assoc. Front Street Gallery Reception and art show featuring “Scituate Scenes”.

7:30-9:30 P.M. Satuit Band concert at Cole Parkway Bandstand.

8:30 P.M. Luminaria along Scituate coastline.
Saturday August 4th
7:30-11:00 A.M. Scituate Rotary Club serves traditional Pancake Breakfast at St. Mary’s Parish center, 14 Edward Foster Rd., Scituate Harbor. Proceeds for local charities, $6.00 per adult ticket, children under 5 free. Tickets available at door.

9:00-10:00 A.M. Opening ceremonies at Cole Parkway and Otis St.

9:00 AM-4:00 P.M. Scituate Rotary Club’s Shelter Box at Village Market. Located at Front street end of parking lot. Proceeds to families recovering from natural and other disasters.

9:00A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Front Street and Cole Parkway: artisans, amusements, refreshments, music, children’s activities and sidewalk sales.
10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. Scituate Maritime Center will present the “Under Water, Across the Harbor” art show. Scituate harbor Launch boat will be available ($2 per person) at the bottom of the gangplank at Cole Parkway Marina behind the harbormaster’s office.

10:00 A.M.  Les Sampou performs on Otis Street
10:00 A.M. Jack Conway Real Estate sponsors a Homemade Baked Goods sale at 80 Front St. to benefit Shawn Sanborn, a local child who has epilepsy and a brain tumor. He is in need of a seizure dog as well as help to go to an out of state facility for the dog handling & training of this dog.

10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.  Carnival Rides for the whole family from North American Amusements.

10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Children’s Art Workshop Tent located outside South Coastal Bank. Sponsored by the Scituate Chamber of Commerce and Scituate Art Association. A variety of activities for children and teens; murals, collage and painting activities led by SAA member Kathy Mogayzel.

10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Scituate Art Assoc. Front Street Art Gallery: “Scituate Scenes”, works of gallery members, ongoing art show and demos.

11:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. Ellis House. 709 Country Way. SAA Artists host open studios.

11:00 A.M. Boat races at Jericho Beach. Kayakers welcome. Special races for children.

11:00 A.M. Border Road performs on Otis Street.

12:00 P.M.  Roger Cerise’s All Stars perform at Otis St.

1:30 P.M. The Fools perform at Otis Street

3:00 P.M. Performance on Otis Street.  TBA.

4:00-6:00 P.M. Traditional Pig Roast at Knights of Columbus, 234 CJC Hwy (Rte. 3A), Scituate

4:30 P.M. Badfinger performs at Otis St.

Sunday August 5th

9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Front Street and Cole Parkway; artisans, amusements, refreshments,
music, children’s activities, sidewalk sales. Fun for all!

10:30 A.M. Toe Jam Puppet Band: A zany and exuberant free family concert in Scituate Harbor. Toe Jam offers children’s entertainment that families can enjoy together. The unique musical performances are very interactive and theatrical. Audience members of all ages are encouraged to sing and dance along with Toe Jam as they entertain with a unique combination of original songs and storytelling. Get ready for a Car Wash, watch out for the Flying Laundry and be prepared to laugh with glee, Toe Jam style!
11:30 A.M.  Reggae Fest with Jah Spirit performs on Otis Street

1:00 P.M. Boat Parade/Blessing of the Fleet. All Welcome. Boats line up at bell outside Harbor. Fr. Kenneth V. Cannon officiating.

1:00 P.M. Danny Seraphine, original drummer with Chicago. (With CTA) performs at Otis St.

1-4:00 P.M.  Noel Henry Irish Showband, outside Christopher’s, Front St.

3:00 P.M. James Montgomery with special guest (TBC) at Otis St.

4:30 P.M. Eddie Money performs  on Otis St.

5:00-7:00 P.M. Scituate Maritime Center will host a cocktail party. $10 per person. All are welcome to sit out on the deck and enjoy the sunset!

Save yourself some time and parking tickets! Take advantage of free parking and free continuous shuttle service from Greenbush MBTA lot and Scituate High School right down to the harbor.
